Lyrics

Five hundred miles of bad road, ‘got traveling to do.
All alone without a phone, no music too.
What happened to my truck, now nothing works right?
Isn’t it just my luck, on a Saturday night?

Oh, Lord you can help me with this task where I’m bound,
Take a pretty melody and send it down.
I need an inspiration to write a song so fine,
That will keep off wide awake and off the yellow line.

Traveling along, still no melody or song.
If something isn’t right, then somethings wrong.
I almost hit a poor racoon, I swerved, and I missed,
The Racoon wasn’t harmed, but he looked real pissed.

Oh, Lord you can help me if it is your plan,
I need an inspiration I’m an empty man.
A dark road ahead and nothing to listen to.
I need to write a story maybe sad but true.

If I could play the mandolin, would you consider me a friend of you?
If I bend the strings will it rock the way the guitar do?

Traveling on that road, halfway done.
The road seems twice as long, when you’re the only one.
I briefly saw a deer, her backside white.
She made my pathway clear and disappeared in the night.

Oh, Lord you can help me write a song in this truck.
Unlock my creativity and turn it up.
I’m driving in the darkness, nothing better to do.
I need an inspiration for me from you.

Take this dollar from my hand,
said the man, you should refuse.
Strength is the measure of a man,
said the man, destined to lose.

But I'm not kidding ya,
with what I'm giving ya,
My opinion is the most I will give you.
if you want me to.

I finally made it home, I can see my house.
I can see my wife and kids, one tugging on her blouse.
I may not have wrote a song, just a couple of bars.
Next time I’ll work it out, using my guitars.
